Just occasionally, Excel can get in a state where it won’t launch when needed – such as exporting or printing. When this happens it can be very frustrating. You may get odd messages reporting that Excel is not installed (when it clearly is), or printing may get most of the way through, then hang or popup messages about ‘not being able to switch to another program’.
If you look at the tasks running, you may see Excel background processes running, and your Windows event log may report unexpected errors in Excel sessions.
There are a number of possible causes and fixes for these issues:
    (1) if you are running a very old version of Excel (before 2007) and haven’t loaded the new Office file format patch from Microsoft, the TScore template files will not be readable. If you manage to open one somehow, it will just show random, odd characters and symbols. There are three possible fixes for this.
(1a) Upgrade Office to a newer version,

(1b) install the ( Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack ) or

(1c) On another computer, open the template xlsx files and save them as ‘Excel 97-2003’ format. Copy these .xls files into your templates folder.

    2. Another problem is where Excel has ‘pending actions’ such as an update that hasn’t completed, license activation or unsaved files to be recovered. To solve there, reboot your computer, then run Excel (before going into TScore) and let Excel run all the way through to the point you can use it. Address any file recovery questions, close Excel and reboot.

    3. A further very quick workaround is to close TScore, go into the Windows task manager and stop any copies of Excel that have been left running. Then start Excel and let it get to the point where it is ready to use. Minimized it. Then run TScore.
